Diabetes was a warning Sugar and Flour was causing your body serious damage big time. The high blood sugar was causing what is known as "diabetic complications." Things like neuropathy, (loss of nerves in your feet, etc) blindness, small veins in eyes plugging up with syrup, kidney damage etc etc. Those are just some of diabetic "complications".
The real danger, even worse: In a Nutshell: Sugar peaks are causing your body to produce high levels of INSULIN to keep you from drowning in blood sugar, ( a diabetic is drowning, the insulin can no longer keep up) It is this high insulin production brought on by sugar peaks that leads to all the other degenerative diseases like cancer, heart trouble, strokes etc that kill you early, and of course to obesity which is just complicating things. To be a survivor you need to control your diabetes so that you also CONTROL your insulin levels. Standard medical treatment often RAISES your insulin level (with prescriptions) as a method to suppress your blood sugar and allow you to keep eating like you were. Never mind the resulting high insulin sets off reactions with degenerative diseases that kill you early but they did help you to keep eating like you always did. That's what you wanted wasn't it? But....also remember, they did remind you to expect to die 15 years early..... Now the hard part..... Ever try to tell an alcoholic to stop drinking? Boy, are you wasting your time. You do not have a snowballs chance in hell of it happening. Now our hard part.... Trying to tell you as a long term "Sugar A Holic" to stop consuming sugar. Imagine a mother who from the age of four gave you a beer for breakfast. Well, possibly your mother did that unknowingly with sugar cereal etc from the age of four and you are undoubtedly about as hooked as you can get by now. The only thing we can tell you that MIGHT get you to stop the sugar habit cold turkey (that means completely all at once) is to run you off about ten pages of hard evidence that diabetes is a warning you are about to be killed off early.) (by related, not diabetes) You are going to break out in a cold sweat just thinking about giving up your Crispy Crème doughnuts or whatever your thing is. This applies to obese, asthmatics, arthritis, overall longevity and not have to have the diabetes warning before taking action etc. Actually refined sugar is okay, it is just that you were not made to handle it, your body has over compensated to keep you from damage for 50 years and now quit the job. That "quit," or body resignation is called "diabetes type 2". Now as a diabetic you have to do the "keep from further body damage" MANUALLY, your auto protection system just quit. If you had done this earlier you would have still had your auto control system to help out.... Boy does that take some getting used to.....this almost total manual control responsibility thing..... Okay, you say, I am not giving up my sweet tooth, I am just going to switch to "artificial sweeteners.Sugar is health food.........compared to chemical artificial sweeteners. Once more....explanation of high sugar peaks. It is NOT just refined sugar. Fruits have been bred up to where they are three times the sugar content they were at 1900. (your body can not handle most modern super market fruits) absolutely no juices. You may be able to blend in (mix with slow digesting food like a quarter grape fruit,) with several slices of slow digesting fat bacon. Potatoes, any form, (French fried worst) are higher faster conversion to blood sugar then eating right out of the sugar bowl. Never eat potatoes again. Raw underground veggies digest out the sugar very slowly and carrots, onions, okay. Cook them and they digest as instant sugar conversion. Eat Raw, anything except fruits. Now sugar hides in everything.... general rule. If it has a label, it is PROCESSED food, avoid. it. Remember, we as obese, potential die early from degenerative diseases etc not just diabetics need to take these steps. Sober up......get off ALL sugar... did that help?
