Reversing or Curing Peripheral Neuropathy, (dead nerves to the feet)

We see different figures on what per centage of diabetics wind up with Peripheral Neuropathy, all the way from 50% to over 60%. Actually, I think the big per centage of people with newly discovered diabetes discovered it primarily because they had lost the feelings in their feet and/or legs. Actually, I think I first lost the nerves that control sweat glands and woke up several times a night with my pajama top soaking wet. Doctor never told me that was diabetes when i complained. Also complained about my feet later and that went no where. Only after a relative with diabetes stopped by and let me use her test meter, that we discovered my fasting reading was over 250 which she informed me was pretty bad. Suggested I see a diabetes doctor in a short time. Then I found out that most of these people you see walking with a cane do so not to help hold them up but to help catch or stop a fall when they stumble from not being able to feel their feet and the changing terrain. My feet had gotten to where I could not feel whether my foot was on the accelerator or the brake or neither one. You just sort of moved your leg that direction and hoped it was aimed right. Then I read about a guy who accidentally unknowingly had dropped a glass watch crystal in his shoe. He had walked on the broken glass in his shoe for over a week before he found out his foot had pretty well been chewed up. That it then took short term hospitalization and months of healing. Then I read about a man with foot sores that wouldn't heal, had been in the hospital for months, trying to save his feet. Had spent over $300,000 and still wound up loosing two toes. That's when I decided this foot thing is serious business and I am in big trouble in river city. The foot doctor I was sent too said she could operate after I got my blood sugar under control and it would relieve a lot of the pain and discomfort. She gave me a prescription and recommended that I get L -Arginine, specified large quantities, from a health foot store as well as taking folate....... which she gave me a prescription for. She also gave me a prescription for an ointment to soften my feet up and it was $65.00. Used up two tubes before I wised up on that one, though I must say it soften em up. Looked up the side effects of the prescription she gave me and refused to take it. Side effects were worse then the disease. The rest I got and used. Recently I see a warning that L-Arginine had a much higher death rate in a study then those taking a placebo. Turned out I had used up the first bottle of that a week before I made my big break thru on my foot problem so that during the time great things happened I was long off of L-Arginine. Therefore it got none of the credit. Later I read it was good for other diabetes symptoms so I added it back in to my numerous supplements, and only dropping it again after the recent study. Read that capsican ointment is good for diabetic feet and it was only $15 bucks a tube. Turns out that was a little hot like hot tamale, cause that's what capsican ointment is. An ointment with like cayenne pepper in it. Since that was too hot I experimented making my own ointment, using cayenne pepper powder and Lubriderm hand cream. Mixed in just enough cayenne that heats things up but still tolerable. Rather amazing healing of some scabs on my legs from running into trailer hitches that I had for months and never really healed up and left. In two nights of this ointment they were gone. So I read up and find that capsican is used to heal things that are difficult to heal. Capsican is a measurement of "heat" in chili peppers, Tabasco sauce etc. Actually I was trying a lot of supplements that were supposed to help with not only my diabetes but circulation to the feet and nerve problems but nothing was getting any better. Then I heard of something called the Anodyne system, that was reported to have turned a lot of peoples neuropathy problems around so I started researching it. (you can to on the net). Turns out NASA had developed some LED lights that are just out of visible range near infra red, to be used to grow plants in space. What the Anodyne people had done was put dozens of these in a foot pad and up the side of the leg system that you could use on your foot. What it does is penetrate the foot supposedly up to two inches and the light causes your foot to generate extra Nitric Oxide, supposedly, so that helps re-grow you nerves supposedly. Reading the studies done with the machine, over 90% were reporting improvement and some reporting almost complete recovery. Turns out there are several manufactures making their version, Anodyne is the one that paid for the studies. Decided I had to have one of these. Turns out to cost around four grand. Other companies have them down to 1 grand. Discussing this with my son who is an electrical engineer, we figured out for under a hundred bucks we could put one of these together. Actually, later I find out...there are people in the major cities that offer the treatment and Medicare would pay for it if your doctor will prescribe it and most are now aware of its success. This nerve damage was up until now considered irreversible by the medical people just as they had for years claimed Infantile paralysis loss of nerve control of limbs was irreversible and Sister Kenny's treatment to reverse was proven sound. We looked at this some more and he got the wave length these things were operating at, and thought...hey...that frequency is available from the sun. Here I am in Arizona with lots of sunshine why do I need to go get my feet exposed with a light when I got the sun to do it bigger and better. The treatment the local therapists offer with the Anodyne machine is for 30 minutes and often takes up to 20 treatments. Each treatment (light exposure for 20 minutes) is $60 bucks. So I go out in the morning sun and use a lounge with the bottom of my bare feet, (this is in summer) pointed toward the sun. I did 30 minutes sun exposure on the bottom of my feet and 20 minutes on the top. Immediately noticed a difference and in three days had the feelings in my feet back to where I could now tell you I was stepping on something. Continued on with this for a couple weeks and continued to get a little bit better but the big jump was in the first 3 days. Little humor here, when someone asks me about it now I say that I can now step on a dime barefoot and tell you whether it is heads or tails. I read several supplements are supposed to really help and even blueberries are big stuff in getting your nerves back but I am allergic to them so can not verify that. Alpha Lopic Acid is one on the top of the list and you can read up on that supplement. My feet continue to get better and I do not even notice them any more.. if anything it is now about like wearing too heavy sticky wool socks, sort of a little irritation, about like putting on shoes after you had been going barefoot all summer, but hardly noticeable now. I do a sun treatment every now and then not because I am sure you need to but what he heck its free. The medical people say Anodyne treatment is not really a cure, it is only temporary. Well, I have not heard that from the people who have gotten complete relief with it. I think this is just the medical people trying to cover for their claiming it was incurable. If it is only temporary, then I suppose you want to get a small version of the machine of your own, so let me tell you what I know about that. As I had mentioned we considered soldering one together since these LCD s are cheap, and they stick a few visible red LEDs in there so you can see when the thing is on. Then on chat I hear rumors Bell and Howell was making a small home use version that had been sold on TV for a while as a treating device for sore muscles and aches and pains.. Took days of digging but I finally ran one down. These things were selling for $85 bucks on TV. Finally found someone who had one in stock. Tried it out on my feet and really never noticed any difference but it was not a fair shake since i had everything almost back to normal and improvements now were going to be very tiny if any. With the small 4 or 5 inch square you have to do two sessions for each foot of 30 minutes and then I did another 30 on each side of my foot. After a couple weeks, out of the clear blue it quits. I send it back and they refund my money. Could not find another one. In the meantime I was in a bike accident with my big dog on a lease and hurt my shoulder and maybe my hip. Somewhere along the line my hip started giving me trouble and was not sure it came from bike upset or not. Kept getting worse. My son had a start of arthritis and took glucosimine available over the counter for it and had miraculous results. Suggested I try if for my hip which by now had made me almost unable to even go for walks. Said it would take weeks to notice an improvement and he was right. My hip and shoulder pain bothered my sleeping and in the meantime we found another of the little $85 lights. Now this thing is only about an inch thick.
Sleep on a water bed so I just stick under my hip and sleep right on top
of it... Been trying to locate another machine so have two but no luck. My hip is now almost completely back to normal particularly if I get in a couple of light treatments a night. I still take the glucosimine condroiton daily. My shoulder is going to be operated on in a few weeks. Two things happen I find out when you have diabetes that make this foot thing a serious problem. You not only lose the nerves you usually have some loss of circulation which I suppose is part of the diabetes and getting old combination. As I understand it, it really is miraculous you get any fresh blood down to your feet at all. Your heart pumps it down there but nothing pumps it back. So if it is not coming back you are not getting much fresh down there. As I understand it there are little valves in your return plumbing so if it gets squeezed in normal muscle movement the blood gets mushed one way and can not come back and as long as you are moving around a lot you get some return circulation that way. Now, as we get old and infirm we tend to move around very little or none. Result we have little going on to keep getting fresh blood down to our feet because the old is just staying down there. Our muscle movement is not helping return it up hill because there is little or no muscle movement. Therefore every day I got in a lot of bike riding and a block or two of walking with the big dog who drags me around the block. It was the bike riding with the dog who likes to run flat out that got me in trouble. Anyway, I think this really helped my feet recover so I mention everything I did since I have no clue exactly what fixes what. Actually I had planned on having a report for you in this issue on biofeedback but I am just starting on it and you will have to check on the web site, http://diabetescure101.com and see if I have finished it. or of course it will be in the next issue. The reports on this really fixing your foot problems are very good, but since mine are pretty well along I may not be able to tell you much from personal experience but maybe I can run into someone who wants to or is trying this out. If you are not familiar with bio feedback let me explain it this way. You can do this for 25 cents if you can find one of those little strips they used to have like in mood rings, changes color with temperature. The idea is you can learn to control body functions if you get feedback. The therapists and pros in the biz basically teach you how to think the right thoughts to learn to control body functions. Lets say you put this mood paper (the pros use a meter, this is just to explain.) Let us say the paper is yellow and for every degree you warm it up it turns a little darker shade of brown. If you are under a lot of stress and uptight about something your hands go cold. If you can warm your hands up and get blood to go back to your hands you relax.. Therefore, you think the right thoughts you eventually learn how to warm up your hands and turn the paper dark brown. Well, you just learned how to relax. That's biofeedback in a nutshell. You can learn to control your heart rate with a heart rate meter feedback etc etc. Here is the neuropathy connection. Poor circulation to your feet is basically the problem. Then as a diabetic your blood gets sticky with sugar so it does not go thru the small plumbing you have down there and with little circulation there is not much hope of healing things up. Now however, you can learn by putting a thermometer on your toe how to warm up your feet by increasing circulation to raise the thermometer up to 20 degrees. Are you following this? If you can learn to do this you can take the thermometer off and raise your foot temp and circulation any time you want. The thermometer was only for you to get on to how to do it. When you buy this for twenty some bucks you get a tape on how to do it. There are several of these and I hope to give you a report on the best place to buy this etc and what works etc. The people that have done this seem very happy with the results and this is certainly a low cost project. We are talking about getting circulation down there to heal stuff up on your own. Personally, I'd take all the supplements etc and do everything that might help including exercise and then I really do not care what worked. As long as it got fixed...so I am in a hurry, I am not doing these six months studies with me on a placebo. In the meantime, if you are not in sun country try the Anodyne treatment and by all means let me know how it works for you. Try my sun treatment, try bio feedback and again please tell us what worked or did not work for you...That's how we are going to figure out how to fix this calamity, by telling each other what works and what is not working.
