Normal short term Inflammation is the ingenious call to arms of your body's immune cells to rid your body of dangerous invaders, such as bacteria, viruses and injuries, resulting in redness, swelling of your tissues that usually is taken care of and returns to normal after a few days.

Chronic Long Term Inflammation is an inflammatory response often totally silent and unaware, of prolonged duration - weeks, months, or even indefinitely.

This happens when the immune system is not able to rid itself of what it deems (correctly or incorrectly) an ongoing foreign or toxic intruder considered a threat to the survival of the host.

This includes toxins from diet or environment).
Remember, your handed down ( caveman ) survival system has no experience with modern man substances and may make a misdiagnosis of what is a danger to your survival..
Powerful immune system defensive agents are eventually released (including reactive oxygen species which are often injurious to your own tissues as well as invading agents. This "self" tissue destruction is why the development of degenerative diseases almost always accompanies long term chronic inflammation.
In military terms this would be called "collateral damage" (civilian deaths) in attempts to overcome or expel what your survival system immune cells consider dangerous toxins or potentially "killer" invaders.
These long term inflammation internal self inflicted diseases include:
